Popular daytime star Cameron Mathison, who currently hosts Hallmark's Home & Family but is best known for his role as All My Children's Ryan Lavery, revealed this week that he has been diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, also known as kidney cancer. He wished for "positive thoughts [and] prayers" ahead of his tumor removal surgery happening today, and boy, did he get it.
After he shared a lengthy post on Instagram about his diagnosis, a flood of messages came in from his former AMC stars and others in the soap opera community.
"Cam Cam. You know you will be on my mind the entire day," wrote Rebecca Budig, who played his former AMC love interest, Greenlee, and now plays General Hospital's Hayden Barnes. "I love you so much and know Buddha is with you!"
"Sending all my Love and Prayers for perfect health and a speedy recovery," wrote Eva LaRue (ex-Maria Santos, AMC; Celeste Rosales, The Young and the Restless). "Your same Inner Light that brightens every room will pull you through."
"Praying for you and your family Cam," wrote Days of Our Lives star Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami Brady), who also stars with Mathison in Hallmark's Murder, She Baked film franchise. "You got this!! Please let me know if there's anything we can do."
"I'm thinking about you," shared GH star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). "I'll say a prayer; you're a great guy. Life always has a way of working itself out."
"You're a beautiful soul," wrote GH's Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos). "Sending you love and light my friend."
"Praying for you brother!" said Steve Burton (Jason Morgan, GH). "My love to you and your family. You've always been a fighter, no doubt this time won't be different."
"Cam, you can count on me to be thinking of you and your amazing family on Thursday at 1pm and always," shared former AMC executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers. "I will be sending prayers, love, and wishes for a speedy and healthy recovery!"
Other celebrities who wished Mathison well include Full House star Candace Cameron Bure, AMC alum Lacey Chabert (ex-Bianca Montgomery), and Joey Lawrence.
Mathison starred on All My Children from 1998 to 2011, earning multiple Daytime Emmy nominations during his run. He has also appeared on Desperate Housewives and has acted in numerous Hallmark Channel films.
UPDATE (SEPTEMBER 13, 2019): Following his surgery, Mathison shared a positive update on Instagram along with a photo of himself in the hospital. He wrote:
"Feeling loved and supported by my family and friends, including each and every one of you. I've been very overwhelmed and so grateful for all of the supportive comments and prayers. The surgery went very well. The tumor is gone and I even got to keep 80% of my kidney. We are all optimistic. Keep you updated. So grateful for all of you."
